Overview
Pench National Park, located in the southern reaches of Madhya Pradesh along the Maharashtra border, forms part of a larger protected landscape shaped by the Pench River. Spread across a gently undulating terrain, the park is known for its open forests and balanced ecology rather than vast size.
The landscape is dominated by teak and mixed deciduous forests, interspersed with grassy clearings and seasonal streams. The Pench River and its reservoirs serve as the park’s lifeline, sustaining wildlife through the drier months and lending the forest a steady, unhurried rhythm.
Pench supports a healthy population of tigers, alongside leopards, sloth bears, wild dogs, gaur, and a wide range of herbivores such as chital, sambar, nilgai, and wild boar. This diversity ensures a stable prey base and contributes to the park’s ecological resilience.
The park is also rich in birdlife, with numerous woodland and water-associated species found across its varied habitats. Open forests, flowing water, and seasonal grasslands together define Pench as a forest of quiet balance—approachable, enduring, and deeply rooted in central India’s natural heritage.

Pench is often associated with Rudyard Kipling’s Jungle Book, giving it a unique cultural connection alongside its ecological importance.
Pench is a mix of open woodland and water-based habitats, spread across both Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra. This landscape makes wildlife sightings easier and more frequent.

Wildlife
Pench is known for its rich variety of wildlife, making it a great place for a jungle safari.
The park has a healthy population of tigers, and sightings are fairly common, especially in areas with good prey movement.
The reserve is home to leopards, sloth bears, wild dogs and jungle cats though they are harder to spot. These predators play an important role in maintaining the ecological balance of the park.
Herbivores like chital, sambar, nilgai, and wild boar are seen quite often, usually grazing in open areas or moving along forest edges. They form the main prey base for the predators.
Gaur (Indian bison) are seen grazing in the open grasslands.
Pench also has a rich birdlife, with both woodland and water birds present throughout the park, making it an excellent place for birdwatching as well.

Testimonials
Namaskar, I am Dr Suneet Raut. Myself and my wife, Dr Susheela visited Kanha National Park, last year, by April 2025. Our close friend, Dr Prakash Babu, called me whether we were interested in doing this safari trip. As we both are nature lovers, and having visited Tadoba and other sanctuaries, were delighted by this call. It was the last week of April. We flew from Mumbai to Jabalpur, then to Kanha sanctuary. I must say, the total experience of those 4 days was WONDERFUL.

Curated Canopy Safaris organised our trip to Kanha National Park in May ’25. The stay was in a serene hotel close to the park with amazing food and courteous staff. We did 1 night safari and 4 day safaris. We could see 4 tigers in 5 safaris. The tour guide and drivers were very alert and had a thorough know-how of the parks. Besides tigers we could spot many deer, wild boars, peacocks and bisons.

Madhya PradeshKanha National Park, located in the Mandla and Balaghat districts of Madhya Pradesh, spans nearly 2,000 square kilometres—of which about 940 square kilometres form the core area, surrounded by a buffer of over 1,000 square kilometres. It is an eden beyond compare.

MaharashtraThe Jewel of Maharashtra
Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve spreads over 1700 sq km and has three main core zones – Moharli, Kolsa and Kolara. It carries the weight of age. This is an old forest, one that feels settled into its land in eastern Maharashtra. The air is dry, the light is sharp, and the forest floor lies bare for much of the year, revealing tracks, movement, and signs that are often hidden elsewhere.
